Recalling the Inaugural LA KISS AFL Home Game at Honda Center

As a former season ticket holder of the LA Avengers AFL team and huge rock/ metal fan, the LA KISS LA Kiss Footballhome opener during week 4/ Game 3 of the AFL season was a must-see event.  Seeing 4th and Loud on AMC last week and the previews for this show brought back all the memories from this exciting event and has given additional and very interesting insight into the season and the team itself.

From the moment the doors at the Honda Center (a great venue for sports, music, and, in this case… both) opened to the last play of the game, fans were glued to their seats with musical entertainment, celebrities, stunts, special effects, and many other surprises that made for an incredible show.

From the musical entertainment of Steel Panther to the speech by Paul Stanley (along with a few words by Gene Simmons), to the National Anthem being played by Nita Strauss (who, later in the season would be picked up to tour in Alice Cooper’s band with Motley Crue) to the coin toss by Lemmy of Motorhead, there were enough entertaining moments that took place before kickoff for an entire evening.

The pre-game festivities and introductions also included a laser show, fireworks and other special effects, which made for a truly exciting event that packed in everything it could and then some.

The LA KISS went up 14-0 by the end of the first quarter and led by 8 at the half.

The entertainment was very visually stimulating and the halftime segment was a variety show for the ages.   Hot go go dancers perched across the arena during the game, cheerleaders entertaining between plays/ commercial breaks/ halftime, great bicycle stunts, and great music being played throughout the event – especially Steel Panther, who did some great originals and even threw in a KISS song for good measure.   Gene Simmons deserves some acknowledgement for recognizing this band years ago – from Van Halen onward, he has always had a great sense for these things.

In an exciting game that had the fans’ interest throughout, the final score was 44-34.

The offensive player of the game was LA KISS’ Donovan Morgan with 4 touchdowns, over 170 yards and 11 receptions.   Beau Bell was the defensive player of the game

Following their victory, the team and all the LA KISS cheerleaders did an on-field signing for all the fans.   They signed the souvenir towels for the home opener, game programs, jerseys, footballs and all kinds of other LA KISS merch.   It was an awesome experience to be able to set foot where the game was just played and get some incredible photo ops with the team.

The game tickets were very affordable, arena football is always an exciting, high-energy and high scoring contest and the entertainment was top-notch.    HMH has even better coverage of a home game from later in the season…  Like the billboard said, “See It To Believe It”.
